Welcome to Westville!
Westville is a town in Adair County, Oklahoma. Westville lies at the junction of U.S. Highways 59 and 62, approximately 13 miles north of Stilwell, the county seat. Nestled in the foothills of the Ozarks, Westville hummed to life in 1895. Back then, the Kansas City Southern Railway was carving its path through Cherokee Nation land. Westville was one of several towns springing up along this iron vein, promising a connection to the wider world.
The town's name itself is a nod to history. It honors Jim West, a local resident, and his son, an attorney for the railway. With the train tracks laid, the federal government offered lots at a discount for Cherokee citizens. Soon, Westville blossomed from a plat of 175 acres to include additions like the William D. Williams Addition, and the Pat Dore Addition.
Westville's story is woven with the larger narrative of Oklahoma's development. From its railroad roots, it's likely the town witnessed the ebb and flow of goods and people, the changing face of the land. Today, it stands as a testament to that rich history, a place where the echoes of the past mingle with the promise of the present.
